Sidewalk Signs, Benches and Flower Pot Ordinance and Application
The RDP and the Borough of Rutherford are working to maintain a friendly image to the downtown, but at the same time a safe streetscape. To these combined ends, a new Borough ordinance has been approved by the Mayor and Council which enables businesses and landlords to place sandwich board signs, pedestal signs, benches and flower pots on the public sidewalk under certain conditions. The approved ordinance identifies the allowed size of these items, their placement in front of the applicant’s premises, a description of approved materials, and an application process. RDP businesses and landlords that wish to place these items on the sidewalk need to read the ordinance, fill out the application form, and attach the required supporting documents. The RDP Streetscape Committee will review all applications and make recommendations to the Borough’s Building Department for permits to be issued.
