Welcome to the Rutherford Downtown Special Improvement District. In 1997 the Rutherford Downtown Special Improvement District was created to help develop and promote the Borough’s commercial center. The Special Improvement District is managed by the Rutherford Downtown Partnership, a non-profit organization whose members include all of the business owners and landlords in the defined district.

The Rutherford Downtown Partnership, located in the town's historic Borough Hall, runs many different activities which are funded by a special assessment on the property taxes for the commercial space in the district, and a business registration fee for each of the businesses in the district. With these resources, the RDP is able to:

  • develop various promotional materials throughout the year for the downtown
  • help recruit other businesses to the district
  • provide holiday decorations for the district
  • review and approve all changes to the exterior facades of buildings in the downtown district
  • develop and issue numerous press releases to enhance the image of the downtown
  • offer a package of "Grand Opening Services" for new members
  • co-manage the "Shop Rutherford" Gift Certificate Program with Boiling Springs Savings Bank
  • publish a Business Directory
  • maintain demographic data for the Rutherford area
  • maintain a resource list of small business development advisory services
  • develop and offer to members a logo and branding image to identify that Partnership members are located in "Rutherford, NJ -- where you are always welcome." Please contact our office for details on the logo and its use.
  • manage a number of events during the year (including the Rutherford Farmers' Market in the summer, "A Taste of Rutherford", and host part of the Holiday Festival after Thanksgiving), and
  • provide liaison services with Borough of Rutherford Departments for the RDP membership.

Together the members of the Rutherford Downtown Partnership are improving the Downtown District, and turning it into a premiere shopping, dining and commercial destination.
